I keep getting this error message: "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Too many messages. Please check the message and try again."

I can send from the BT website but not from Thunderbird, so it does not seem to be a server problem. Messages go into the Sent box but have not actually been sent

The error message evidently is from the server. I'd suggest you contact your email provider.
