I reset firefox, and lost the sound control icon

Using a hp compaq. Was getting slow startup, so reset firefox. After reset, no longer have sound control Icon in bottom right corner of screen. Other icons are still there. (Battery condition, windows sidebar, etc. Get no sound.

Do you mean on the Windows Task Bar, near the clock? I'm not sure that updating Firefox is related to this problem. You might also try a Windows Vista forum. For example: http://windowssecrets.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/48-Windows-Vista-Forum

I went into Firefox Mozilla "properties" and reset the sound. Problem solved. Thanks for replying
