I have lost right click - auto open in new tab

When I right click a link I used to get the page opened in a new tab automatically, this stopped several updates ago. I have been trying to fix it but have had no joy. There is a solved problem on the forum but I don't run any of the addons that seemed to cause that users problem. I would really like to get this feature back, I have tried living without it but I feel as a bit of functionality is missing all the time.

Windows 7 Firefox 30

By the way, clicking a link with the mouse wheel (also known as middle clicking) will open the link in a new tab -- that's built in -- but I know it can be hard to learn new habits that have become automatic.

I noticed you have an extension named Tabbrowser Preferences but it is disabled. Maybe this is a feature of that add-on? Could you try re-enabling it on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then scroll to the grayed out area toward the bottom of the page and see whether you can Enable it.

Any luck?

In case you didn't know, clicking the scroll wheel on your mouse will open links in new tabs.

As jscher2000 is saying above, this was never a Firefox feature. This feature was most likely included with an addon that you had installed. I have looked at the Tabbrowser Preferences extension and this seems to have this function.
More than likely, the addon was disable by Firefox because it was not compatible with a new version of Firefox, but I can confirm that it is now compatible and you should be able to enable it once again.

Enabling Tab Browser made no difference but your comment on whell click made me look at my mouse settings and I'd accumulated 4 different mice in device manager, so disabling a couple of redundant mice brought wheel click back to life and now I can click and open in a new tab - cheers
