I still have the "--" applied above the signatures even after applying the mail.identity.default.suppress_signature_separator fix ie setting it to true. Have tried running Thunderbird in Safe mode, still have the same issue. Have restart the computer several times, still have the same issue. Have read many posts on this, but not saying that it is not working even after applying the fix. Any suggestions. Clean install no extensions or addin's, User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/24.6.0

Chosen solution

Fixed it. completely removed Thunderbird, user profiles and programming folder created by thunderbird. Cleared %temp% folder in windows. Restarted PC. Installed Thunderbird. Added an account. Went into the config to change the settings for suppress signature separator. This then worked.
