Hello, I am currently trying to figure out a way to get this: https://www.google.co.uk/cse/publicurl?cx=011443679866246468437:ejnincolk1e custom google search engine to work with my quick search bar and have no idea how to go about adding it to the list of available search engines.

Is it possible to do this? If so could someone please help me get it set up?

Thank you!

You can install the Add to Search Bar add-on for Firefox.

You can then add any search engine to Firefox's list by right-clicking on the input field on the search page and then clicking "Add to Search Bar" (see below image).

I hope that solved your problem!

If it did, would you please choose this answer as your solution? It would help other Firefox users to find help on the forums faster and more efficiently. Thanks!

And of course, feel free to post back if you need more help!

Happy browsing!

The usual way to add such a search engine is to right-click the search field and use "Add a Keyword for this Search" This makes the search page available as a bookmark with a keyword that accepts search terms as an extra parameter and that you can invoke via the location bar.

For adding search engines, see the already mentioned "Add to Search Bar" extension:

Hi guys!

Thank you so much for you're replies.

@Epicaleb: I already tried to use the 'add to search bar method' however, When I then try to search for anything via the newly added search bar, I just get directed to the search bar page as if a search has not actually been performed and I have to type the search into the actual webpage again instead of using the quick bar.

@cor-el "This makes the search page available as a bookmark with a keyword that accepts search terms as an extra parameter and that you can invoke via the location bar"

I'm not really sure what you mean by the above part!?

As for the add on you linked me too, It does not seem to work for the reason listed @Epicaleb. It's really annoying!

Do either of you know of another way this could be achieved?

Oh, sorry; were you trying to access the search box that said "Google Custom Search"? That one does not seem to work with the add-on. The top search box ("Search in CSE Home") can be added to the search engine list in my test, though.

Thanks for the clarification! :)

Just a couple of thoughts

Do the search bar options you already have work ok. By default Firefox has options to use different search engines already

As for using the keyword method this article should clarify matters

It works for me with the first search bar (Search in CSE Home) and select "Add a Keyword for this Search" in the context menu, but not with the second search that you are probably interested in. That second search bar seems to be using JavaScript and only works when you run it from this page. So you are out of luck with adding this search engine directly to Firefox, either as a keyword bookmark or as a search engine in the search bar.

Ok no problem, It is the second one that reads "google custom search" that I'm interested in. My apologies, I should have made that clearer.

Thank you so much for trying to help me. I really appreciate it.
