Phoned Mozilla # on Google, was hacked by guruaid, restored by technician so all files have 5/18/2014 date and I can't add files and need help with them.
Thank you. I'm a total novice. Gruaid hacked my entire computer with my permission as I was telling them how much I trusted and appreciated Mozilla's kind help. I'll start with one problem. When I tried to download attachments from my email, I clicked on 'save mail' but nothing showed up on my file list. Next I tried "brouse" and nothing happened. All my files are now in alphabetical order rather than by date, but the files didn't show up under the subject heading there either. (Use Microsoft Office)
I had an awful time getting to this site. I hope I can find you again. Yes, I am glad to make a donation. Thrilled, in fact. Really.

Sorry about the sneaky tech support ads on Google search results. If you gave those support people any of your passwords, you should change those.
It sounds like your question has at least three parts:
(1) Let's start with downloading email attachments. Which email site do you use (e.g., Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook)?
(2) For Browse, do you mean that Firefox doesn't display a window to upload a file?If this is a problem on some sites and not others, that would be useful to know. For example, there is a Browse button below the reply form on this forum? Does that one work?
(3) Regarding the order -- alphabetical vs. date -- is this in a list in Firefox, for example, bookmarks, history, downloads, etc.? Or is this for files on disk, as displayed by Windows 7?

Your reply consisted of three questions. After I answered them, I didn't know how to get them back to you so we could finally allow me to access my files after the hacking and the restoration of my computer. I send the message to noreply and to 'did not answer the question.' I did save a draft of my reply.
I cannot access any of the files from my computer or open and save the emails or the attachments..
I'm not sure what you want. I don't navigate your screens very well. I try to to work through your screens but I am uncertain if I'm doing the right thing. What I'm asking of you is help to read my files and to be able to print them. I I thought they had been saved in the 'cloud' when the hacker went through my computer but they now all have the exact same dates. I need to be able to read current aol attachments and to print them and I need to be able to print the current word documents I am writing. My printer can copy but it can't print from my computer. Please help. Please.
I should start by saying I'm a volunteer here on Mozilla's site. Neither this site nor I have any association with the company you called. So apologies if we have trouble figuring out what happened to your computer.
Unfortunately, you can't reply to this forum by email. However, if you saved a draft of the message or sent an email reply, even if it didn't go through, it should be in your Sent Items so you can paste your comments here. That would be helpful in getting a better understanding of the problem.
Have you tried opening your AOL mail in Internet Explorer to see whether it works there?
Regarding printing documents from your computer, do you get an error message when you try to print?
Oop, some personal user info slipped through the e-mail. Removed by Moderator
Thank you again. I just spent an hour and 15 minutes telling you how I was trying to open the attachment by describing each screen and its contents in detail. My mouse slipped into the Toyota screen next to mine and I lost it all. I was pretty lost on the fifth screen with its choice of 22 files, request for a name for my file and the choice of PROGRAM or all files. I had selected Windows Media Player on a wild guess. Anyway that's how things go for my efforts.' I did manage to copy yesterday's response but haven't finished answering today's questions for you. Here's yesterdays effort: Thank you, jscher, for helping me. I am quite desperate as I use Word, Excel, and Print quite regularly and am at a serious loss now. To answer your questions
1. email site
The email site I use to download my email is the aol mail site. I access the mail after reachig the internet by clicking on the mozilla icon. The new screen's address line has a tiny triangle about 3 inches to the rightt which I click to open access to aol.. I then have to click again on another screen to ge to new mail.
If I want to access my Documents I click on the globe-shaped icon (not mozilla) which opens a screen with two lists. The list reads: Getting Started, Windows Media, Calculator, etc. The list on the right reads: Mary, Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, Computer, Control Panel, Devices & Printer and Help & Support.
2. Browse
The Browse to which I refer is one of the two choices I'm given on the screen after I click to open the aol email's tds file attachment. The two choices are l. Browse and 2. SAVE FILE. I chose SAVE FILE first but couldn't find the file after much hunting( and discovery about dates and organization on the files). I later tried Browse but failed to get anythig to browse.
Firefox window. There isn't any Firefox widow that I recognize as such. The word Firefox appears in the top left corner of thw address bar when the screen opens from the mozilla browser, which is most of the time.
3. Order
The dated Documents list of files is the one listed below the word Mary in the list enumerated in #1 above. I do know that there is another location for files on Windows but I don't know where to look for it.. I'm pretty poor on my technology vocabulary which makes your task more difficult. But I will try hard to communicate successful answers to your questions. I have been at this effort since ten o'clock this morning and I will continue to work on it as long as you are able to help me..Don't worry; I don't mean continuously through night and day.but I will stick with this situation until it is resolved. And I will contribute financially to your organization if you tell me how to do that as effectively as you dissect problems that are not always clearly articulated.. Again, thank you very much. Mary

I don't personally use AOL, but could you check to see whether Firefox is downloading the files? Try opening your downloads list using either of these methods:
- Ctrl+j
- Download arrow icon on the toolbar
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks, then click Downloads in the left column of the Library dialog
Are any of the files you saved listed? If so, try opening them. To do that, you either can:
- double-click to launch the file in its associated application
- click the file folder icon on the right side to open a window showing the file in its folder on your system
Regarding file lists on your system, Windows 7 can display files by name, by date, by type, and probably other criteria. Microsoft has a support article with screen shots here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/arrange-sort-or-group-your-files
Truly appreciate your patience.
I can access my aol messages but cannot open the attachments. Haven't tried Internet Explorer yet. Will do that after sending this note.
My printer prints copies, but I cannot print any files from my computer or any new documents I create. No message appears on the computer screen. I have only one printer, a fairly new Canon. with all the plugs plugged in.
I go through all the steps through the FILE button, finally clicking on the printer image, but the printer doesn't seem to engage.
Sorry; very sorry. I tried but the restored computer's configurations are different. I finally located Internet Explorer but it looked very different. I couldn't get on aol at all. A bright red screen had flashed on the Internet Explorer site saying there were two serious problems; "Call this number immediately." I didn't. And I ended up making a big mistake which kept me from getting back to you sooner. I wasn't able to get back to my original password screen in Windows. In the meantime Microsoft was updating my files and restarting my computer. I became so jangled that I typed my computer password into the Bing search bar on the open internet page, not recognizing that is wasn't the right page for the password. Then when my password showed up on the screen and in the search result, I really thought I couldn't get into my computer. I didn't know how to get to aol from that screen. I knew I was doomed. In time my computer automatically hibernated and when it woke up with a poke from me, the original screen for my computer password was there so I was able to access aol. But I don't want to try Internet Explorer again. The screens are too different. Will wait until I can find someone to walk me through the new Internet Explorer.
I failed to be able to follow your directions to open the attachments. I hand write all the information on every screen I pour though so I can describe them to you clearly. That takes a very long time. and today, the mouse drifted into the Toyota ad next to the screen and I lost more than an hour's worth of work. My approach requires an excessive amount of time. I know you don't use phones but that would speed up the process for me. When I move from one program to another, I don't know how to move back and forth without losing one of them. I'm never sure I'll get back to you again. And I sometimes don't know which choice I should make when given options in technological terms. I'm even afraid of dropping an important function with a choice I make trying to get through my 'continue' or 'next' computer screens. But, about the files. I did go on the web site you recommended and will use that valuable information another day. But all my Documents are in one category now: Documents. And they are mostly dated May 18, the date the hacker was on my computer. The list of Documents has been returned in alphabetical order. I was hoping they were stored somewhere by date as that is important to me, but that storage is unlikely. I can read the fies but I can't print them because my computer and printer aren't working together. So let's just work on getting my computer connected with my printer as that is my most important problem now. And I'll start polishing a halo for you for being such a saint through all of this. It hasn't been pretty but that's no fault of yours. Want to try? Mary
