Firefox Sync lets you access your bookmarks, passwords, tabs, and more across all your devices. The easiest way to turn on Sync is to sign in to your Mozilla account from the Firefox toolbar or menu.

Once you sign in or create a new account, Sync is enabled automatically. This article will walk you through the sign-in process and how to manage what gets synced.

Sign in or create an account to start Sync

  1. Click the Sign in button in the Firefox toolbar.
    • If the button is hidden, open the menu (≡) and tap Sign in at the top.

  2. Firefox will open a secure page at accounts.firefox.com.
    • This special view ensures that signing in or creating an account will automatically enable Sync.

Enter your email address

  • If the email is already linked to a Mozilla account, you’ll be asked to enter your password.

  • If the email is not registered, you’ll be prompted to create a password to set up a new account.

Confirm your new account (if applicable)

If you're creating a new account:

  1. Firefox will send a confirmation code to your email address.
  2. Enter the code to finish setting up your account.

  3. After confirming, you’ll see a screen that says “Sync is turned on”, sometimes with a confetti animation!

Note: If you’re signing in with an existing account, you may see a prompt to create a recovery key. This is optional. Sync is already enabled at this point, and no further setup is needed.

Choose what to sync

After Sync is enabled, you can choose which items you want to sync:

  1. Click the menu button (☰)
  2. Select Settings
  3. Go to the Sync section
  4. Select or deselect the types of data to sync, such as:
    • Bookmarks
    • Passwords
    • Open tabs
    • History
    • Add-ons
    • Settings
Tip: Your changes will sync automatically across all signed-in devices.

Connect additional devices to Sync

A device could be a mobile device (such as a smartphone or tablet), a desktop computer or another Firefox profile. For more on mobile devices, see:

To connect another desktop computer or profile, just sign in and let Sync do the rest. To sign in, you'll need the email address and password you used in the previous section.

  1. Open Firefox on the second computer or profile
  2. Click the menu button (☰) > Sync and save data
  3. Click Sign in and enter the same Mozilla account credentials
  4. Your data will sync automatically

If you're already signed in (see How do I know the status of my sync?), click Sync Now to start syncing immediately.

Disable Sync for previously synced devices

To disable Sync on a device:

  1. Click the menu button (☰)
  2. Click your account email at the top of the menu
  3. Select Sign out
  4. Choose whether to keep or delete synced data from the device
