You can set your New Tab page to show a search bar, your most visited sites, recommended and highlighted stories, or nothing at all. To access these controls, click the menu button
, choose OptionsPreferences
, and select the panel. You can also click on the cogwheel icon in the top-right corner of the New Tab page. Learn more about these controls below.
Change your New Tab page content
Click the cogwheel at the top right corner of the New Tab page.

- Put a check mark next to the settings you want to see:
- Search: turns the search box on or off on the New Tab page.
- Top Sites: shows sites you visit the most.
- Put a check mark next to Show two rows if you'd like to see an additional row of Top Sites.
- Recommended by Pocket (U.S., Canada and Germany only): Shows stories that are popular among Pocket users.
- Show Sponsored Stories: Shows the occasional sponsored article. These will be clearly marked if you choose to turn this on. See Sponsored Stories (Pocket site).
- Highlights Shows pages you've visited or bookmarked recently.
- Snippets Shows content from Mozilla. See Snippets in Firefox FAQ.
Blank New Tab page
If you prefer a blank page:
Click the cogwheel at the top right corner of the New Tab page.

- Remove all check marks to hide all sections from your New Tab page.
- Click the menu button
, choose OptionsPreferences and select the panel.
- You can also click the cogwheel icon at the top right corner of the New Tab page
- Under Firefox Home Content, put a checkmark next to the sections you want to see on your New Tab page. Some sections will let you choose the number of rows you want to see on your New Tab page:
- Web Search: turns the search box on or off on the New Tab page.
- Top Sites: shows your most visited sites. (Use the drop-down menu to indicate how many rows of Top Sites you want to view).
- Recommended by Pocket (U.S., Canada, U.K. and Germany only) to see stories that are popular among Pocket users.
- Sponsored Stories to see the occasional sponsored article. These will be clearly marked if you choose to turn this on. See Sponsored Stories (Pocket site).
- Highlights to see pages you've visited or bookmarked recently.

Blank New Tab page
If you prefer a blank page when you open a new tab:
- Click the menu button
, choose OptionsPreferences and select the panel.
