I am feeling stupid. I managed to get my Firefox browser. I have Windows XP. I am missing the stored passwords and all my favorite bookmarks. I did try to import and didn't work. I can't see where my bookmarks. What do I do? Please help!!!

The bookmarks are stored in places.sqlite in the profile. There should be backup copies in the bookmarkbackups folder in the profile as well. Import will not work with the backups but restore will.

Can't remember where the stupid profile at what file?

You should be able to restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder of the old profile.

For the passwords you need to copy the two files signons.sqlite and key3.db to the current profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
