Is there a simple way to clear the trash cans of all accounts? And likewise for all spam?

IF you have set up unified accounts, just highlight 'trash' or 'spam/junk' in folder pane, rightclick, and select to 'empty' . If you do not have unified folders set, just click view>folders>unified folders

What is "Unified Accounts" ?

My error. I meant to write 'unified folders.' if you click view>folders and tick unified folders, thunderbird will present a view of accounts with shared folder names, such as inbox, sent, trash. This allows a virtual view of all inboxes with one click, all sent messages with one click, and the same for trash. a rightclick on the unified trash folder lets you empty all at once.

careful. if you use empty trash on the unified folder, the trash cans of all configured accounts are emptied, not just those set in the properties of the unified folder. bugs.
