Is there away for a notification that seent mail has been opened when it hasn't yet been replied to?

You can request a return receipt with setting in 'account setting', but that is a voluntary response from the recipient's email client. I doubt this will ever be a feature, as many people oppose it -- and goes beyond being an email agent.
