You know, I get that same authentication dialog in Google Chrome (screenshot attached).

Firefox does have a setting which will solve this for you. However, it is not site-specific, so it could block login dialogs you want to use. If you never see this two-line popup style of login dialog from other sites, then it's probably safe to make a change here. And it's easy to change back if you need to.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste SUBR and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the network.auth.subresource-http-auth-allow preference to display a dialog where you can enter the desired value:

  • 2 - show authentication dialogs for embedded items from any site (default)
  • 1 - show authentication dialogs for embedded items from the same site only
  • 0 - do not show authentication dialogs for embedded items, just skip them

In this case, you would need to use 0 (zero) because the restricted blog icon is from the same site.

Hi andreuccio, thank you for the report.

There is an error in their blog link. Instead of showing the public icon, someone indicated to use a restricted icon that requires a login. It is in the embedded section with the headline "Nubifragio su Roma : strade allagate, tantissima grandine sulla capitale, chiuse alcune metro – ultime notizie" which loads from

https://www.inmeteo.net/blog/2018/10/21/nubifragio-su-roma-strade-allagate-tantissima-grandine-sulla-capitale-chiuse-alcune-metro-ultime-notizie/embed/#?secret=tgtC5ELsEo

Off the top of my head, I don't know how to make it fail silently -- meaning, without bothering you. I will see whether I can learn a way, or perhaps someone else will have a suggestion.

Until then, you can use the Esc key to dismiss the prompt without having to click Annulla (Cancel).

Also, would you mind reporting this problem to the site? The bad image address is in their Wordpress code here:

<div class="wp-embed-footer"> <div class="wp-embed-site-title"><a href="https://www.inmeteo.net/blog" target="_top"><img src="https://www.inmeteo.net/blog/wp-admin/images/w-logo-blue.png" srcset="https://www.inmeteo.net/blog/wp-admin/images/w-logo-blue.png 2x" width="32" height="32" alt="" class="wp-embed-site-icon"/><span>Meteo Italia, Previsioni del tempo, Notizie e Terremoti</span></a></div>
