Getting RETR error message. ATT says it's a T-bird problem. Just started. No change by me prior to problem. Deleted T-bird and re-installed. Problem remain
This started the day before Christmas and continues. No changes on this end. ATT says that T-bird is configured correctly for their servers and that it might be a specific message. How can I tell?
Mail works fine using Outlook or Win Mail or using the Internet Explorer mail client. I use Windows 10 and have done for over a year.

It has been an issue for ATT customers for what seems like years. They periodically re-index the mail stored on the server so customers that have mail on the server as well as in Thunderbird get an error as all the index numbers provided by ATT/Yahoo are now junk. Perhaps it is the hackers and not Yahoo's incompetence.
From the help menu select troubleshooting information click the show profile button. close Thunderbird open the mail folder in Windows explorer. Open the ATT/Yahoo account folder. Delete the file popstate.dat restart Thunderbird.
ALL mail stored on the server will not download.
To prevent future occurrences. 1. set Thunderbird to delete mail download. (Leave nothing on the server) Or 2 Use the IMAP protocol instead of POP (it copes with the change by deleting all your current mail and re-downloading it with the new references Or 3 get a mail provider that does not regularly mess with their mail.
