After TB upgrade 38.5.1 Lightning would not load. I have tried reloading Lightning with no effect. It works if I start in Safe mode, but then not in a normal start.

Chosen solution

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner - been sick.

There is currently a problem with the update process.

  1. On the toolbar then  Add-ons
  2. Select extensions and remove the Lightning (calendar) addon
  3. Restart Thunderbird
  4. Reinstall Lightning/calendar addon - if you need the functionality

Please tell us, does that help?

1. Do you use a roaming Thunderbird profile? on NTFS?

2. Please test and tell us if this workaround helps.... copy {TB-program-installation}/distribution/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}/chrome.manifest to {TB-profile}/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}/chrome.manifest

After a restart does it work again as expected?

Thanks Wayne. I don't know the answer to your first question. What is NTFS? I copied: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\distribution\extensions\{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103} to: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\extensions as there was no \{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103} in extensions. It contained \{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd} should I have deleted that? that in turn contained chrome.manifest (which I copied from the distribution folder), icon, icon64 and install.rdf. The folder copied from distribution contained much more (5 folders, 2 programs as well as chrome.manifest and install.rdf). Still no Lightning!

Thanks Wayne. It is working now - not sure if it is because I have changed PC and updated to Windows10 - but I did what you suggested and it worked.
