Is there a way to have TB auto delete Trash msgs older than a specified number of days. I don't want to just empty all the Trash folder, but I would like to be able to tell it to empty all messages over 30 days, or 42 days or whatever. Suzanne

Since we needed to upgrade 2 PCs to Windows 11 (1x Pro & 1x Home) nothing works anymore with Thunderbird. It has MASSIVE and unsolvable problems to connect to our Gmail account via OAuth, Not only will it ask every single time again and over again to allow the connection, but moreover even after granting access it still can NOT send (SMTP) or save or even receive (IMAP) emails. It is maga frustrating and I am currently after days and days spend to unsuccessful fix the problem are at the point to looks for a more reliable alternative (if there is any). Just as background: Our Gmail account is about 14GB big, the local Thunderbird folder around 100GB; so yes it's big, but that's another problem, there are no easy or straightforward off-line archivers any longer to effectively and still easy accessible reduce the local archive.

Hi. I've downloaded dictionaries and languages, the check spelling option is enabled in the browser settings. However, browser doesn't want to do it automatically. I have to manually enable it with RMB context menu (and re-select languages) for each website individually. Moreover, when the page refreshes, spell checking turning itself off again in RMB menu (but stays enabled in browser options).

  Is this really how it's supposed to work?

I've (finally!) managed to set up a new account on my new PC (having found the required password, a long string of letters - where did that come from? - I would certainly never have chosen that and I was never informed of it). I also successfully managed to transfer my Profile from the old PC to the new one (thanks to your helpful article. However, While I have thousands of 'sent' messages I only have a few in my inbox and sub-folders (i.e. today's). (I originally used the recommended server settings (?IMAP) I was offered but then changed to SMTP/POP which is what I always used before without problems.) So - I go to 'Import from a Thunderbird profile' and it shows me the Profile Name and Directory details, but then says 'Nothing can be imported from the selected source' - but doesn't tell me why not, nor what I should do about it! Given the Profile has transferred successfully, why can't it be accessed? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks, David Collins.

Since the latest update to my Thunderbird installation (Windows 11), my previously created Mailing Lists have stopped working after always working well. Thunderbird Release: 140.7.0esr (64-bit)

I now get the message below when I try to send an email using a mailing list address:

      • Committee <*** Committee members> is not a valid email address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the email. (Name partially starred out for security).

Am I doing something wrong?

I have one account in Thunderbird that pop's emails from a Yahoo account. If I delete a message in Thunderbird it goes to a local trash bin and on default stays there forever.

I want the emails to be deleted after 40 days in the trash bin. See picture. But it looks like it works exactly like it's described.

Messages are deleted from the trash when it's 40 days after they were originally send. If I delete a message in the inbox older than 40 days it goes to the trash and is immediately deleted from it.

I tried deleting several messages older than 40 days.

The counter of the trash increases for a split second with 1. If I look in the trash the deleted message is not there.

In my trash there are only messages "younger" than 40 days. At this moment the oldest is from December, 14 2025

Yes it works like the retention policy tells it should work. But this different from what I expect from trash folders

I waited for a long time to do an upgrade to avoid problems. Today finally I decided to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox for my iMac, 147.0.1. Before the upgrade I successfully used with zero issues gemini.google.com/app . Now the website comes up, but regardless what I enter as a question I only get an error message stating "something went wrong". The same website works with no issues (TG) with Safari.

Does anyone else experience the same? Is this a known bug with this version of Firefox? Is there a work around for it? Is the solution just using Safari?

I have an email filter set for a domain that has been sending many spam messages. It was working but now they have started to use my name portion of my email address in their email address. For example, if my email address starts with bobp@ then the email address at the top of the email is bobp@ncqkl.com. The domain is real.

The only option for the first column of the filter I am aware of that can be used is "From", "Contains" and "Email Address". I don't believe Thunderbird allows domains. I have tried ncqkl.com to no avail. Somehow they are getting around filters by using your email name portion. They were also using multiple different addresses all with the ncqkl.com domain.

Is my best bet to use the adaptive spam system? I haven't really used it in the past as I haven't needed to. I don't get much spam usually as I don't have much of a presence on the net. Just lately the amount of spam has increased considerably.

Can I permanently turn off InformationUpdate available' which appears each time I open Firefox. I must click Dismiss to close it. The problem is that after each update, many services to which I log every day, state that I am logging from a new device and I must complete a time consuming procedure of adding a new device in many places. Thunderbird refuses colored text on new Lenovo 17" Idealpad and adds asterisks not written by the author. Example message test: bbbbbbbbbbbbsssssssss ggggggggggggg***234*5678,56 *<==============* The written numbers and the arrow were colored red. No asterisks were written in the message sent. When writing, colors appeared correctly in messages with no asterisks on screen. However, no colors appear and asterisks are added in recorded messages sent and received on the PC. The Lenovo PC works OK in general, so it must be a Thunderbird configuration/function problem on my PC as the message is correctly received with colors without asterisks on my mobile phone. Recently Mint upgraded my FF to v147 - possibly relevant, possibly not. There's no post mentioning anyone having this issue on the Mint forum though.

In my Settings, "Open previous windows and tabs" is definitely enabled, but it doesn't happen. I only get my homepage custom URLs.

I went into troubleshooting mode and FF then behaves.

So I figured the issue must be with an extension - but I disabled all my extensions, and it doesn't help. Only going full troubleshooting mode fixes it.

What do I do next please?

Through extensive troubleshooting, I am unable to get firefox to open at all.

I've done a full uninstall, cleaned all user directories, program files / x86, program data, appdata roaming and local, etc. I used the Microsoft uninstaller and even Revo Uninstaller to remove everything related to Firefox, did a restart and reinstall of the latest one and it still won't launch.

Firefox was previously working until a reboot occurred and now it won't launch.

Firefox 32 bit seems to work when installed, and running Firefox as an admin previously worked but no it no longer does.

There's no malware on this machine (business EDR on it, even disabled it as a test and it still didn't open).

I was able to launch the profile manager but now I am unable to as the processes launch in task manager and then within 5 seconds they close.

Firefox is not running in the background for any user (I'm the only one logged in after a reboot as well)

I'm unable to open in troubleshoot mode either. Tried run as and admin cmd "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode

Ran SFC / scannow / DISM restore health commands as well and both came back fine / no integrity violations

Using TB no problem. Power failed. Restarted computer, TB email does not send or receive. TB receives Outlook email stating authentication failed. I logged back into Outlook. Outlook email works fine.

I need to fix TB to send/receive/save emails after a power failure today, Grid outage at 13:40, Power restored 13:40. Computer restarted, TB opened but will not perform any send/receive/save tasks. TB Message Send gets Outlook notification - Authentication failure. Went to Outlook email, logged back in, test email I had attempted to send by TB is in Outlook, plus new emails in Outlook, but none in TB. Checked for TB updates, current as of Jan 15, 2026. Restarted computer twice. Outlook email works but TB does not perform any tasks. I lost no TB emails in my messages before the power failure, they are all still in my TB messages. Have no idea to whom I was chatting a week or so ago, but outlook.office365.com was recommended to me as the incoming server setting for Outlook.com. Set TB that way and used it for a week or so. TODAY got a "failure to authenticate" error from TB (have had many such errors before). Went directly to Copilot, as I thought it would be the most authoritarian place to clear up Microsoft problems. It provided the informaiton below: Official Outlook.com Thunderbird Incoming Server Settings (2026) IMAP (recommended) Settings Server name: imap-mail.outlook.com Port: 993 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication; OAuth2 Username; Your full Outlook.com email address

Why this is the correct server Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, and MSN accounts do not use outlook.office365.com .

Set outlook account incoming server to imap-mail.outlook.com and reset TB Immediately got: Mozilla Thunderbird Thunderbird Authentication failure while connecting to server imap-mail.outlook.com.

Can someone please tell what's going on?
