I've recently added my iCloud account to Thunderbird, and can use this along with my other accounts, yahoo, gmail and so forth.

icloud.com, however, has a useful feature, which is that if you try to send an oversized attachment - anything up to 5Gb - it will automatically send it via Apple's Mail Drop facility: that is, it will store the attachment for 30 days and incliude with your email a link from which to download it.

This also works with Apple's Mail app, but it doesn't work with Thunderbird; with Thunderbird I just get the familiar 'attachment too large' warning, and the email is not sent.

My question is twofold: first of all, should it work? i.e. is there something I haven't done properly in setting the icloud account up; secondly, if it's technically not possible for it work, why is that? I don't understand the mechanisms of internet connection to know why this might be.

Thanks in advance to any experts on this topic!

I'm brand new to Thunderbird and am in the process of making sure I can send and receive email. My only experience using an email client was with Outlook. Question 1: When I click on "+ New Mail" the "Write: (no subject) - Thunderbird" email form pops up as it should. However, the content area of the form is filled with question marks, symbols and letters. I've never seen anything like that and would like to know what it is and what change to make so it doesn't appear each time I want to send an email. Question 2: I set up an email signature in Account Settings. I chose the "Attach the signature from a file" and it seems to have completed successfully. However, I don't understand how to actually have the signature appear in my email. I don't see any option in the email to have the signature appear. How do I do that? Thanks.

I've used FF for years. The last year, it does not function correctly on about 20% of sites. I suggest focusing on making it compatible, rather than requiring sites that are perfectly coded. I may have to drop FF soon.

When I pull upwards on the bottom of my screen to scroll between/close apps while in landscape mode (such as watching a video or playing an app), if Firefox is open it will show me a preview of a video that I watched a while ago (and in a private browser, as I do most of my internet usage in the private browser). Why is it doing this? I've since watched other videos, and yet it still shows the preview of a video from several weeks, if not months ago. I'd like it to not do this. It's a bit annoying seeing this glitch (or occurrence, however it may be categorized) so often when I'm long since watched other things. It's only occurring when in landscape mode as well.

Seems, in the past, mickeysofty and others would research how users use the product and make it easy. Not anymore. All you guys have said the user needs to figure out how we want you to use it. Nothing but one way to get there. It's their way and no other.

In Thunderbird I see two methods of accessing/editing SMTP settings for email accounts.

1. Using the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" which displays all the email accounts in a list. You then select one and click "Edit" to view or edit it.

2. On each email account page there is an "Edit SMTP server" button. Click that to view or edit the SMTP settings for that account.

I'm seeing two problems:

1 - The settings made using #1 above don't carry over into what I see using #2 above.

2 - Using method #2 above, changing the SMTP settings for my newest email account also changes the settings (seen using #2 above) on one other email account. And vice-versa.

What could be causing this?

About a month ago I began the process of upgrading from W10 to W11. In the process, several problems happened. One of the problems was with Firefox. After reading and trying many suggestions from the Mozilla site, as well as several other sites, and having no success, I posted my problem on this Mozilla support site and hope that there was someone who could help. There was. After several days of exchanging messages (suggestions, instructions and results - mostly about Profile), Firefox returned.

The other major problem is Thunderbird. I have downloaded a current version (128.5.2esr). I have run it twice and, each time, email was downloaded. So that part seems to be working. What doesn’t appear are the settings I have used and message folders I have created over several years. I suspect that the problems are Profile related.

Starting from Help in the Thunderbird menu, then Troubleshooting Information, then Application Basics, I see Profile Folder. On that line is a button labeled Open Folder followed by (Local Drive). I click Open Folder and File Explorer opens to a folder named ab3xaztm.default-esr. It shows that the folder contains 59 items, including 10 subfolders. All files and folders show a December date.

Following the path C:\Users\rsuth\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\, in addition to ab3x…, there is another folder nlys3gkl.default that contains only 1 file, times.json.

Because of my earlier struggle – and eventual win – with the Firefox problem, I think that the Thunderbird problem might also be fixed in a similar way: Profile.

Slightly before the upgrading from W10 to W11, I made a copy of my Thunderbird folder. I think if I replace the currently active Thunderbird folder with the one I have saved, my Thunderbird problem may be over. However, I’m not certain that will happen and I’m not certain about the specific steps to take to make the replacement. (With my Firefox issue, there were a couple of small important steps I had to take to make it work, and those steps were explained to me by the person who helped me with my Firefox problem. So, after all these words, can someone point me in the direction to solve my Thunderbird problem?

Thanks for reading.
