I am attempting to reset Firefox (for Linux/Ubuntu 12.04 LTS), which has gone a bit wonky... but following the procedure, the first thing is to select "Help" (icon "Question Mark) and proceed from there. Unfortunately, there is no help icon displayed in the choices as it is shown on the Firefox website. It's rather like trying to find a corner in a round room. As an aside, amongst the problems I am experiencing, is the appearance of green, grey, and black rectangular boxes in the browser window. Visually, it is like the text that usually appears there is being "masked" or something. (Perhaps) A propos of nothing.. this seems to have happened on the heels of a regular Ubuntu Update. Thanks for any advice/guidance. Jaguar PS - I wanted to u/l a screen shot, but was unable to do.

hello Jaguar07, you can also access that page directly by entering about:support into the address bar of your firefox browser.

Hello Jaguar07,

Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support. I had a similar experience where the menu box wasn't not rendering correctly. It was solved by quitting and restarting Firefox.

In addition, Philipp is correct that you can get right to the Reset feature by going to about:support in the address bar.

Cheers, Patrick

Thank you (to both Patrickmc and Phillpp). Unfortunately this course didn't resolve the problem. I actually ended up removing Firefox completely and did a fresh reinstall.. and that didn't change anything either. It's no different to how it was. Uh oh. Gremlins. :) Thanks again.. I'll keep trying and sort it out eventually.

PS - The problem even followed me here. Pls note the display in the browser window. Thanks again.

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:

  • Windows/Mac: Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • Linux: Run firefox -safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

Thank you, Moses, for your responce. Firefox performed the same way in Safe Mode. I'd send you the screen capture, but you already know what it will look like.  :) PS I installed the Chromium browser, and that seems to work just fine (regarding the browser-window blockade issue). I suppose that's a work-around, but I'd prefer keeping Firefox if possible.

To Everyone: I powered the computer down for a few hours, and when I came back and used Firefox again... it seems to be fine now. I was right initially, I reckon... it was Gremlins. Hopefully, this is case-closed at least for now. Thanks again to all. Jaguar

- Time is nature's way of preventing everything happening all at once. I wish I could remember to whom I could give credit for that quote, but in this case, "time" seemed to be the answer.
