I just switched from Eudora which allowed me to set it to auto check every five minutes or more or less. Can TB do the same? I don't see anywhere in the tools or other settings to do that.

it is far more likely your issue is related to virus checking than anything else. This is especially so if your virus program sticks a button in Thunderbird. They usually cause something to just not work.

Have you tried restarting from the help menu (Alt+H) with add-ons disabled. That sorts things out fairly quickly some times.

It's in your server settings.

AppMenu button - Options - Account Settings - Server settings

Christ1, It took me a bit to get to where you were talking about. It was set on check every 10 minutes and check upon opening. But it had previously been doing neither of those things. An hour might go by before I got back to the computer and there were a bunch of messages waiting to download. So I changed it to five minutes and we'll see what happens now. Ted

You need to set this for each and every account.

Note that some providers object to too-frequent polling for messages; live.com aka hotmail limit you to a 15 minute minimum interval.

Thanks, but I use a private email provider so that isn't a problem.

Matt, Christ1and Zenos, The first fix is what did it. That and maybe contacting my email provider who helped me tweak some of the settings from those imported from Eudora. Thank you all.
