Help! I am so frustrated. Every time I look at an email I have to scroll back through all the folders to get back to the inbox. It is really upsetting and a huge waste of time. I have to wait until it scrolls through back to the inbox. It is so inefficient!

How do I shortcut this and get back to the inbox in one step?

Chosen solution

If a user wishes to have multiple tabs open, then my suggestion works to return to the Inbox. That answers the original question, and they have already been instructed on how to close multiple tabs.

You can rest assured that if I had posted the first reply, I would have mentioned closing multiple tabs. I don't think I need instruction on how to "educate" users of this forum.

Have you considered closing the tab you have open when you are done reading the mail. Go back to your folders, and on the top right click the tab and select close all other tabs from the menu.

Start closing the message tabs after you read them. Why would you keep all the tabs open so you have so far to go back?

To fix your mess now right click one tabs and select Close Other Tabs. Then use the x on the last tab to close it.

A better suggestion in my opinion is to read the mail in the Message Pane and not open in a tab at all. Press F8 to turn on the message Pane if it is not displayed now.

If you click the 'List all tabs' drop down next to the activity indicator, Inbox is always at the top, and selecting it will move the focus back to Inbox.

How does that fix the underlying problem of having a gazillion tabs open sfhowes. I see it offered as a solution, but the people asking the question would mostly be horrified if Thunderbird opened in 30 windows, so it does not serve to educate people about the program they are using. Remember when someone talks of how long it takes to scroll back that they do not have 6 or 10 windows open. Likewise that widget also defaults to a scroll once you get a certain number of windows open.

The same applies to any Thunderbird user on a Mac who does not know how to right click. They are using the program and loads of other programs probably but most definitely Mozilla programs with one hand tied behind their back. They are probably missing half of Thunderbirds functionality. The total failure of Apple to adopt a real mouse is unfortunate, but given you right click both folders and messages to manage them we need to extend our support to include education on how to drive OSX. This is difficult for me as I have never seen any value in apple products, but I try.
