Some pages don't load only on Firefox. They load after changing proxy settings back and forth.

I am having a really annoying problem with Firefox. Some pages don't load, at random. Other browsers work fine. I tried disabling all add-ons, I resetted firefox, I tried safe mode. Nothing works. When a page doesn't load, I go to Advanced/Network/Setting and change the proxy setting between "no proxy", "use system settings" and "auto-detect". I try to reload each time, sometimes try to go to another page and then come back. Eventually the page I want loads. Sometimes it loads when I just cycle back to the same setting it was before! It doesn't make any sense to me. I am using MAC OSX 10.8.5, and have no proxy settings at the system level (all boxes are unchecked).

Any help would be much appreciated! I don't want to change to Chrome, but I will be forced to if I can't fix this! (annoyingly, the page didn't load when I tried submitting this the first time...)

Chosen solution

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).
