How to remove S.ytimg.com virus?

Posted

I opened a you tube video sent by a friend and it infected my computer with the S3 ytimg virus. The anti-virus software I use does not seem to remove it and it has caused my computer to operate very, very slowly.

See the "How do I get rid of malware?" section of the following article.

The following article offers tips for solving performance problems in Firefox, but it's unlikely to help if you're having trouble with your entire system.

I have to add that I can find no legitimate references to such a virus. ytimg.com stands for YouTube Image. It's a domain owned by Google that hosts thumbnails for YouTube videos, and possibly other content. There are several subdomains, like s.ytimg.com, s2.ytimg.com and s3.ytimg.com.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

I tried several different spyware removal packagers and they did not make any difference at all. There must be a way of removing this from my computer.
