Horizontal Bottom Scroll Bar is missing
The scroll bar is gone on TWO of my machines since 2/8/2014 yesterday. - Both machines are WindowsXP - The machines are not networked - I am not running any exotic programs or games. I do run Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Avast) - I have not installed or upgraded anything in 6 months
Solutions tried and did not work 1. I ran the "Firebox Reset". It did not fix it. 2. I manually disabled all addons and restarted. It did not fix it. 3. I restarted in Firefox 'safe mode'. It did not fix it.
And before suggesting that I upgrade from XP, please know that I old enough to hope that XP outlives me :) Thanks!

Wow, I'm making good progress here!
I reset layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from (-1.0) to (1.1)
-the scroll bar is back.
-(the vertical scroll bar was never a problem).
Everything then became a bit giant sized so I used the addon NoSquint:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
Solved.
Thanks again, your instructions are very well written and easy to follow. The about:config file is certainly impressive.
I think that we can say "case closed", and thanks very much for your help. Smiles to you.

Does this problem occur on all sites or only on particular sites? If there are particular sites, could you post a couple of addresses?
If you open a new window (Ctrl+n) and load the same site there, does it work any differently?
Do you usually start Firefox from a regular program icon and start with your home page, or do you usually start from a link to a particular website, or do you restore your windows and tabs from your previous session?
Hello! 1. It happens on all sites. 2. Ctl+n : it still happens. 3. I always start from a Firefox icon. 4. My homepage is the Firefox google search page. 5. I do not restore windows and tabs from the previous session.
Thanks for your help.
I don't know whether it would make any difference, but Firefox 27.0 was released this past week. You could use
Help > About Firefox > Check for Updates
to get Firefox 27 and see whether that helps.
I upgraded from Firefox 26.0 to the latest 27.0, but still have no scroll bar on the bottom.
But wait! I just resized the window and the scroll bar is there (it was not with 26.0). As long as I don't maximize the window, it stays there. I can live with that (although minimize and maximize are totally useful single-click functions).
So...perhaps some sort of setting has changed? Like it is looking for a bigger monitor? I have not changed the hardware at all.
Thank you so much, I'd be preaching to the choir here to say that I've used Firefox since Netscape and it totally rocks.
The bottom scroll bar shouldn't disappear when you maximize, but occasionally a user has reported that the lower part of the browser appears to be slipping behind the Windows task bar, so it is out of view and inaccessible. Since you did a reset, I didn't mention that before (the only known "fix" involves deleting a settings file and reset did that). Hmm...
Do you at least get the Find bar via Ctrl+F or is this bar hidden as well?
You can check for issues with the window size as Firefox might be zooming the page for some reason.
You can set the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref on the about:config page to 1.0 or on Windows 8 to 1.25 and if necessary adjust layout.css.devPixelsPerPx starting from 1.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps (1.1 or 0.9) to make icons show correctly.

Use an extension to adjust the text size in the user interface and the page zoom in the browser window.
You can look at this extension to adjust the font size for the user interface.

You can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoScript extension if web pages need to be adjusted after changing layout.css.devPixelsPerPx.

Thanks, yes the ctl-f shows the find bar.
I am going to read and follow your post carefully and will let you know the results tomorrow.
Thanks so much for spending the time with me to fix this problem, thank you thank you.
So only the scroll bar is hidden and not any content on the web page or otherwise in the browser?
Is there only an issue with the horizontal scroll bar or also with the vertical scroll bar?
If you have made changes to Advanced font settings like increasing the minimum/default font size then try the default minimum setting "none" and the default font size 16 in case the current setting is causing problems.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
