Why the grid pattern appearance on all web pages? How can I change it back?

Recently I opened FF for the day and suddenly all web pages are arranged in a GRID pattern, with borders and lines around different sections of text. Makes it hard to read. I did not do this and can't imagine how it happened; I would not have known how to do it anyway. How can I remove these grids and get back to the way it was before? I know for certain it is only happening when I use FF b/c it does not happen when I use Safari. I prefer to use FF over Safari for a number of practical reasons, so if anyone can provide a helpful answer I would greatly appreciate it.

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
See inverted colors: http://www.apple.com/accessibility/osx/#vision

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.
