I have always chosen FireFox because it has generally offered me options to work the way I want to. I am not even remotely interested in having a whole load of redundant search engines begging me to use them whenever I type anything into the address bar of the browser. However, some wise guy has decided that on the android version of the browser these are now essential to the correct and stable working of FireFox and so I am stuck with them. (Unless I go back to Google Chrome, which I am reluctant to do.)

Please reinstate the ability to remove this sort of clutter/spam from my favourite browser.

Hello,

Can you please confirm that the issue you are facing is that you can't remove the search engines that the Firefox for Android comes with? Is that the issue you are facing?

Searching from location bar was added to the Firefox for Android this year and being able to set the default search engine was added in Firefox 23.0

Thank you

This is indeed the problem.

It is a feature that regressed as part of the changes we made to the way we manage search engines. We have this fixed in Firefox 29, which will be released on the last Tuesday in April.

Unfortunately the fix requires adding some descriptive text to resolve the issue. We won't be able to fix it any earlier as we do not want to overburden the volunteer translation community that helps us greatly to provide Firefox in 60 to 80 languages.
