Chosen solution

Are you copying the image you are currently viewing using right-click > Copy Image?

Are you copying from a website to a different program (such as Word or Paint), or into another page in Firefox? There may be special issues pasting into an online editor.

Websites can use scripts to change what happens when you right-click. Sometimes this is used for good, like custom menus, but it also can complicate copying images... if you want to try disabling (all) sites from doing that, you can make a couple of changes in the about:config preferences editor. I'll look up the details if you're interested.
