The article is dated July 10 2013, not 3 years or worse old. Note that the article is from MDN - i.e. Mozilla Development Network. MDN is more proper place for developer questions like yours.

Microsoft hasn't updated its Windows Media Player plugin for Firefox for a while, so 3-year-old documentation may be current. I recommend using MSDN as a resource, and particularly articles indicating which features work in Firefox.

You also can work out development issues on a forum more focused on that, the unofficial mozillaZine Web Development board. It's a separate site (with separate registration).
