I can't restore my customized toolbar. Got the bookmarks back by following instructions found. I can't figure out how to restore toolbar...I go to the "troubleshooting information" and I click on the "show files", but the only "local" I find is not dated before I reset Firefox and I don't understand "click on Firefox and while it's repairing....etc. I'm pretty good at following instructions but these baffle me. Please help!

I haven't seen that pop-up yet...

If you want to try rolling back the clock I can describe a procedure to do that. In brief, it would involve creating a new settings folder (a new Firefox profile), removing the contents from that folder, and copying in the contents from your Old Firefox Data folder on the desktop.

Doesn't take long if you're interested, but then you would need to troubleshoot why the old profile was slow. Here's how:

Resucitating your pre-reset profile

(1) Create a new Firefox profile:

Close Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager as described in this article:

Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

Any time you want to switch profiles, close Firefox and return to this dialog. When creating a new profile, I recommend using the default location suggested, and not deleting any profiles without making backups first. For quick reference, give the profile the name June12 so you can easily recognize it.

(2) When you start up in the new profile, it will be pretty much blank. Open the profile folder using

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

The Windows Explorer bar should show a name combining random characters with June12.

(3) Keeping that folder open, exit Firefox. Allow a few moments for Firefox to finish updating files in the new profile folder. Then delete all the contents of the new profile folder. This will leave you with an empty June12 profile folder.

(4) In a separate window, open the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. Copy all the data from that folder into the empty June12 profile folder.

(5) Start Firefox. It should launch into what looks exactly like your pre-reset configuration.

Now on to the troubleshooting. If Firefox feels sluggish, I suggest starting with Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

The whole purpose of resetting Firefox is to restore it to factory defualt, this usually fixes many issues, this also removes all addons. You can try to download all of the addons again then create your custon toolbar.

Your old settings folder should appear on your desktop under the name Old Firefox Data (or similar name). You can use this folder to selectively restore files, however, this is messy with some data.

Your toolbar customizations are stored in a file named localstore.rdf. You could try copying the localstore.rdf file from Old Firefox Data to your new settings folder (the one you opened using the "Show Folder" button). You should close Firefox before doing the overwrite. If this makes things worse (it's possible), you can simply delete the one in your current folder and Firefox will again re-create a default file.

As for restoring other data, why did you do the Reset?

Quote: Firefox popup telling me about my computer being slow and unresponsive to reset it.

such a pop-up is usually coming from security software that monitors programs for their performance.

It was from Firefox and it took me the Mozilla Firefox home page to reset it. It even told me how to find my bookmarks but the only problem was I "bookmarked" the page and couldn't get to it after reset. I've finally got bookmarks and toolbar back. Thanks.

Thanks for the help...I finally got bookmarks and toolbar back. I was surprised at the popup because I'd had problems for awhile with it being slow, and not responding. Resetting has definitely helped.
