How do I prevent sliding frames?
Firefox does a great job preventing pop-ups and pop-unders. But I'm seeing a new intrusion which I can only describe as a "sliding frame". I don't know the correct term or if that is the correct term.
You can see this for yourself by going to www.topix.com and visit the main webpage and any of the folders. An add will slide-in from the left. with a bottom caption "Ads by Zinc".
It won't go away until you click "X". But it comes back when you travel to any page or even back to the main webpage.
What do I do? What can I do?
Feel free to ask me any questions.
I mostly visit the sports forums in Topix and this is annoying.

The one that says Ads by ZINC? Fortunately with a wide display it doesn't overlap the content, but is more of a distraction. On an older monitor, or if you have zoomed the content to fill the left margin area, it would be really annoying because it actually would block you from reading.
In order to stop that frame from generating you would need to prevent the scripts from zedo.com from running. This is rather arduous using built-in mechanisms, but there are some add-ons you could try. For example:
- YesScript - allows JavaScript generally but lets you block specific sources; I haven't tried this myself. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yesscript/
- NoScript - blocks JavaScript generally and lets you allow sources you trust; it does mean extra steps when you visit any new website, but if you need the extra security, you get used to it. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/noscript/
Of course, there also are add-ons that filter ads specifically. I haven't tried any of those myself.
