I have a digital camera, Canon PowerShot, SX210 IS. I want to download the pictures on the camera to my Dell Inspiron computer. Can you help with simple directions? I am a novice in this type of task. Thanks.

Hi drreider, you probably won't use Firefox for this.

Most Canon cameras come with a software CD. Did you install Canon's software and the user guide?

Basically, there are two ways to get photos from your camera onto your computer.

(1) Use a card reader. Your Inspiron might include a card reader (a small slot), but it's not included on every model.

The advantage of using a card reader is that your camera can just be turned off while your remove the SD card, insert it into the card reader, and copy the photos onto your PC. Less drain on your camera battery.

When you insert the SD Card, Windows 7 will first set up the device driver, then ask you how you want to access the photos. You can work with it just like another storage device, or you can choose a program to import the photos. This is where your Canon software would kick in. There are lots of other options, too.

(2) Connect using a USB cable. Your camera probably included a USB cable.

The advantage of using USB is that you do not need to eject the SD card and move it around, so there is less risk of damaging it.

When you connect the camera, Windows 7 will go through a similar process of recognizing your device and asking how you want to access it.

Hope this helps. A great forum for digital camera users is dpReview. For Canon, you could ask questions on this one: Canon PowerShot Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review.
