firefox was just automatically updated to ver 18 and keyboard input stopped working

keyboard input just stopped working - it had been working and then all of a sudden it just stopped. I did not load any add-ons. I was trying to login to "my verizon" (after logging out) - nothing worked. I reset to initial install defaults. I also tried "safe mode". I don't have any extensions running. Internet explorer works and everything also works. I am running windows 7 and all my updates are current.

Did you try to reboot the computer a few times to see if that helps?

no i did not - no other applications are having any problems. i will try it and see if it makes a difference.
