You can get an overview of all open tabs using the Tab Groups feature.
You can see a thumbnail preview of a tab when you place your cursor over it using the Tab Scope extension.

Thanks. I wonder if you and I are talking about the same thing.
I am running Windows 7. The Firefox icon is pinned to the Taskbar along the bottom of the screen. I apparently accidentally changed some setting either on Windows 7 or Firefox 16 that changed the behavior of the icon.
Behavior 1. Previously when I had multiple web pages open on Firefox and I put the mouse over the Firefox icon in the Taskbar, I would see a small version of each page, arranged side by side--each was too small to read, but identifiable.
Behavior 2. Now when I have multiple web pages open and I put the mouse over the Firefox icon in the Taskbar, I get a grey rectangle showing the name of the website--I expect that it is the title on the Firefox page for that website.
If you are able, I would like to know how to get from behavior 1 to behavior 2. It would make my day!
Thanks.

Modified
Your post was very vague, so I took an educated guess as to what you might be referring to.
(see the screenshot attached at the bottom of this post)
Based on your new description, this is the Firefox icon you are seeing versus what the one you want to see. This requires two things:
1. In the Tabs section of Firefox's options, you must check “Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar”.
2. Your Windows theme must be set to any of the Aero themes. Windows Basic, Windows Classic or High Contrast will not work.
Sorry for the vagueness. I can't make it work. I guess I'll get used to "behavior 1". Thanks anyway.
