Previous version of Firefox points to latest installed version on seperate drive, bookmarks missing

Posted

Hi, please could I have some help with the following?

I had firefox installed on the same partition as the windows I booted from. Due to an error this partition would no longer boot and I had to install windows and firefox clean on a seperate drive.

I've managed to get the partition working again and can access all the files on it again. Unfortunately when i load up the firefox on the previously failed partition it appears to load up the same version as I installed most recently. None of my old book marks are in the menu which is what I am trying to access. I've looked on here for help and the following don't seem to apply to me...

- There's no profiles folder in the old partition so I can't find Places.sqlite. - Troubleshooting>Show Folder points to the application data on the new install drive - There doesn't appear to be backup.json files on the old partition

So my question is is there anywhere on the old partition you can think where my old bookmarks may be stored?

Any suggestions would be appreciated Many thanks JD

Chosen solution

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Windows 7+ versions are hidden folders.

The old profile folder should be in one of these locations.

XP:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Vista/Windows 7:

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

A million thanks, I was able to finally locate the profile on my old partition and copy the places.sqlite file to my current profile and after restarting firefox I could see the bookmarks again.

Thanks!
