Before I updated to the current version, I checked for any "provisos", and found nothing to indicate that the Zone Alarm Extreme Security, ForceField was not compatible with Version 16.0.2. Had I known I would not have updated. Is there any recourse for those of us who have this problem.? The only post I noted on this issue, is "closed" and dated about 8 months ago.

Thank you for the reply, Old Fox!!

I agree with you 100%. This has been occurring without fail on every new Firefox update.

I do wish that Firefox had warned users of incompatibility problems with the ZA ForceField, as they have done with other issues prior to the users downloading the latest version of Firefox.

Thank you also for the link to the "release notes", which I did not have previously. This will be of help in the future.

Warmest regards,

ZoneAlarm is always late in updating their toolbar. Only the toolbar is not working; your Firewall and AV protection is working. They occasionally skip updating complete versions of Firefox, while others manage to release updates on the same day or soon after a new Firefox release. Latest ZoneAlarm version 10.2.078.000 (10.2.081.000 not fully released to all) only supports Firefox 15. Firefox 15 was released on 08/28/2012 which means that their toolbar has not been updated since the release of ZoneAlarm 10.2.078.000 on 08-30-2012 (over 2 months ago). Post a complaint (futile) in their forum.

I do not use ZoneAlarm but am somewhat familiar with the problems that users have posted on this forum.

  • Firefox/Mozilla can not track or be aware of the hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of third-party add-ons (especially toolbars) available. Firefox does keep track of compatibility of add-ons available on the add-ons site.
  • It is the user's responsibility to check compatibility of third-party add-ons.
  • Firefox should have shown upon installation that the ZA toolbar was not compatible, based on version information hard-coded in the ZA toolbar files.

It is my impression that the ZA toolbar is produced for them by Conduit Search. You have an option to install the ZA toolbar; there is an option to install or not install the toolbar when you install ZA on your system.

Some functions included in the ZA toolbar are already built-in to Firefox (Safe Browsing provided by Google). See - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/phishing-protection/ There are 2 check boxes (2nd and 3rd) on the Options > Security panel that control those functions.
