My AVG safesearch toolbar has disappeared and I cannot seem to make it reappear.
I have two problems.
1.I finally downloaded the latest version of Firefox, which I had been trying to avoid since the last time I did so I had numerous problems. Now that I have done so, my AVG safe search toolbar has disappeared.
2. In addition, when I previously visited secure sites, I could tell because a yellow padlock symbol would appear in the bottom right hand corner of the page. This has now gone, so I have no way of knowing if I am on a SSL site or not and I am worried by this as I do all my banking and shopping online.
Can anyone please advise me on these matters? Thanks.

Ok, let's start with your second question first.
The Status bar in the bottom of the screen is gone. Instead of a padlock, Firefox uses the Site Identity Button to inform you if you are on a secure website or not. You can read the article to learn about it and the new features it offers versus the padlock.
As for your AVG safe search toolbar, if you want to continue using it in Firefox 10, you may have to install an update for AVg and the toolbar to make it compatible with Firefox. If AVG does not have an update, you can contact them to ask when they plan on making it compatible with Firefox 10.
Another thing I noticed (not related to your problem) is that you have some out of date plugins, so I would run the [plugin check] Mozilla plugin check, and install any updates it finds.

Thanks for the info about the site identity button. I cannot find the right download for the AVG thing on their site, although they state that there is an update to make the safe search toolbar compatible with Firefox 10, but when I click on the link it isn't clear which one I am supposed to download. Unfortunately I cannot email them because I use AVG free.
Thanks again for replying to my question.
You can try using the AVG Forums, which are located at http://forums.avg.com/. Also, try downloading AVG again and reinstalling it. I've heard of that fixing this issue as well.
Thanks for your suggestions, I appreciate it.
ANDROMEDAK RAKEN -- If you download AVG Version 2012.0.1913, AVG Safe Search will be compatible with FF 10 or above. That's what I am using with FF 10.0.2.
silkphoenix I did this but the safe search has now gone completely!
ANDROMEDAKRAKEN -- If you have upgraded your FF to 11.0, the AVG Safe Search will be disabled by FF again because it is no longer compatible with this new FF version.
That's the problem with any add-ons which sometimes couldn't catch up with the new FF version. We just have to wait until AVG releases a new version which might be compatible with FF again.
I just went to the AVG forum and found this thread:
http://forums.avg.com/us-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=195668#post_195668
So AVG is aware of the problem and will fix it soon.
I see. Sorry if I have come across as a bit of a technoignoramus but I clearly have not been keeping up with AVG developments (or lack of). Thanks.
No problem. I'll post the update whenever AVG releases an update so other users can be aware of it also.
Got another issue now. I have the Firefox 10 and the new AVG 2012 but it keeps underlining things with a red squiggly line. I dont know if this is the new firefox or the AVG but it is HIGHLY annoying. Anyone know how to get rid, or I shall be off to IE I can't be bothered with pointless spelling "helpfulness".
Oh it's OK I managed to disable it, sorry!
Latest update: AVG has released an update version; 2012.0.2126 which fixed the AVG Safe Search add-on. If you upgrade to this version, your AVG Safe Search add-on will be ENABLED again by FF. Also AVG had added another add-on called "AVG Do-Not-Track". You can install it if you want it, which is an option when you upgrade.
thanks so much but do I find the add-on at the AVG site or on FF?
Both AVG Safe Search and Do-Not-Track are part of the AVG latest update. Once you installed the update, the Safe Search will be automatically ENABLED by FF while Do-Not-Track, you'll have to allow FF to install it. You'll see a window asking you for the permission.
