How do I clean up the Bookmarks drop-down menu?
Over time I've acquired a lot of underbrush and crap in the Bookmarks drop down menu. I've deleted most. But two problems remain.
1) The <<Search | Firefox Help >> lines, and there are many of them (I don't know why) will not go away when I right-click and hit delete.
2) There are dozens, perhaps a couple a hundred, of empty lines. They are pointless and clog up my HTML backup.
How do I get rid of these two irritants?
Thanks.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Thanks, cor-el. Your first suggestion worked at getting rid of redundant links to Firefox Help. It did not clear up the endless empty lines that seem to go on forever in the bookmarks drop-down, but these are harmless.
