IE has never had a problem, but in FF I always get "The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

This also includes doing 127.0.0.1

The fact I can't get it in Safe Mode, but can get it when Private Browsing is the strangest one I think. What does Private Browsing not include that Safe Mode does, to see if thats the issue?

Chosen solution

PB mode doesn't use the disk cache and doesn't use the current set of cookies.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

That's worked so thanks very much. About 6 months I've had this problem, but only recently did I find out it worked in Private Browsing!

You're welcome.

Those two steps are always to first thing to try if there are problems with accessing websites to refresh any cache data.

You can start with a reload of web page(s) and bypass the cache and if that doesn't help then try the other two.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
