Firefox tells me installing the latest version will disable my AVG. I love Firefox, but I really like AVG virus checker. I have so far not updated from version 8.0.1.
Can 9.0.1 be installed without deactivating AVG?

You are misreading the message. It is saying that your AVG extension version you have installed in Firefox will be disabled due to not supporting Firefox 9. It will not disable your completely separate AVG virus scanner application.

AVG LinkScanner compatible with Firefox 9
Please be informed Mozilla Firefox 9 is fully supported by AVG 2012 and AVG 2011 currently. More information can be found in this AVG Forums post. Should you face any compatibility issues (LinkScanner, AVG Toolbar) while using AVG and Firefox 9, please make sure to update your AVG and restart your Firefox browser.
