Sometimes they get moved somehow. If I search for the name I have given the bookmark, it comes up, but doesnt tell me WHERE it is filed, in my many bookmark folders, so I can move it back where it belongs. This can happen to an entire folder, and can take FOREVER to find where it has been moved to. When it comes up in a bookmark search, clicking on its' properties also does not show where the bookmark is LOCATED.

There may be extensions that can help, and bookmarks should not move of their own volition, but the easiest way to find a bookmarks location is probably to open that bookmark. If you then click on the star it will give you the edit options, that shows which folder it is in, and allows you to easily move it if you would prefer it to be elsewhere.

I have not tried this add-on myself, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sortplaces/ and you will probably find quite a few other add-ons relating to bookmark use.

Thanks, I didnt know about the edit star trick, and couldnt find the answer in the knowledge base. I think they get moved when I click to quick, or badly, and they get dropped into, and disappear into another open folder in the bookmark toolbar. They can get buried really deep, and usually the entire folder gets moved. Then 2 weeks later, I notice they are gone, and spend an hour or more fiinding them. Searching for any bookmark name I know (in that folder), & then using the star edit does the trick!
