my bookmarks won't stay on the sidebar-even after checking that

Having two problems: 

1.  My back ,forward, and reload buttons don't work.

2. When I go to "View"/"sidebar" and put a check mark in front of "bookmarks" --they disappear the next time I log on . Pat
