I get 404 error at www.google.com with Firefox but not with IE

I have www.google.com as my hompage but not when I start Firefox I get a 404 message: 404. "That’s an error.

The requested URL /index.htm was not found on this server. That’s all we know. "

I get the same thing if I just type www.google.com in the address line. IE9 works just fine, only Firefox 6.0.2

Clear Cookies & Cache

Clear the Network Cache

Check and tell if its working.

This worked for me: Open Mozilla Firefox in safe mode by holding down the shift key when you open the browser. Once you work in safe mode for a couple of minutes, close out and then reopen the browser normally.
