Print dialog box does NOT remember settings.

I setup print dialog box to custom print a page to a file (/tmp/ff.pdf); it works. I then go another URL, same session, & when I hit Ctrl P, all my previous settings were reset to default value. However, all the custom settings are there in about:config AND in prefs.js! The gtk print widget does not seem to read prefs.js. Permissions on prefs.js are 644. Also what happened to "print.always_print_silent" option. This problem only came out in my upgrade to FF 6.0. Used to work for many prior years.
