Firefox can't connect to the Internet on my Vista laptop even though IE can; is Microsoft erecting some obscure barrier to cometitive browsers.

I have installed Firefox 5 on my somewhat antique laptop running Vista. Firefox starts up and runs fine; it just can't connect to the Internet so I'm forced to use IE (e.g. to send this query). I suspect that there's some obscure setting somewhere in the system that's blocking Firefox's access to the Internet.

Yes, it was a firewall (Zone Alarm) that was the problem. It was out of date anyway and seemed to lurking inaccessibly in the background so I just uninstalled it.

Thanks.
