I have more than one issue, but I'll just address this one for now. When I click on the Firefox icon on my desktop, I notice that a shield is there. Then I get a message that asks permission for Firefox to make changes to my computer. I click yes. But this is like a new thing, but at the same time this started, there were other strange things that wasn't the way it was, like, my toolbars, I have an entire list of addons that I don't know what they are (digg, reddit, delicious - which is now up on the top of toolbar with view, etc., and more) can't easily find bookmarks, sometimes can't go back to previous page without it shutting off,) and I keep getting this message that says it can't be updated, so check to see if I have the right version. I was loving Firefox so much, I hate to go back to IE, so please help me.

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.

Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".

Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.

I did what you said, but couldn't find firefox.exe. Still, it solved the problem and I thank you so much. Do you have any advice for the other problems? Like all across the top there are all of these icons for aaddons (I guess they are) and I recognize stumble and some others but what is delicious, digg, reddit? And I keep getting this message saying that it didn't update properly to check to make sure I have 5. I always do. Thanks. This is the first time I've really had any problems, and I really love Firefox.

If you have no need for extensions (add-ons) that you have installed then you can remove (uninstall) them in the Extensions manager (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
