this just started -- a little box shows up in the lower right hand corner, showing the URL where I am browsing -- this is annoying to me and I want to disable it -- How?

That are messages that previous Firefox versions displayed on the Status Bar.
Current Firefox versions no longer have the Status Bar and show such a pop-up instead.
