I've been through 3 versions of Ubuntu and 2 versions of Firefox with these Linux OSs. None will allow midi play on websites. It always alerts me that I need additional plug in to be able to play the media on this page. I then click the button "install missing plugins" and Firefox does a search but says there aren't any. I dearly hate to go back to Windows and Internet Explorer....but I will. Thanks,

Chosen solution

Chances that someone creates a plugin that plays MIDI embedded are not very high because the MIDI format is not widely used and it is already possible play such files.
Plugins are third-party and as such not part of Firefox and always need to be created by others just like extensions.

I'm not aware of a plugin that can play MIDI files on Linux.
Timidity can play MIDI files only if you open the link externally, but not embed in a page AFAIK.

Edit > Preferences > Applications > MIDI Audio > Use timidity

Thanks cor-el. Hopefully there will be some future updates to take care of the issue.
