The web page I am viewing has alternative style sheets to the default one and suggests using the browser picking mechanism to select an alternative. Does Firefox support this and, if so, where is this picking mechanism?

You can select alternative stylesheets here: View > Page Style

Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
