Why are you trying to trick me into downloading an inferior version?
Firefox used to be a good browser. It has served me well for years, and I have loved it. Then you came out with Firefox 4. It looked ugly. It wasn't user friendly. The menus were inconvenient to navigate. It was missing features that I had come to rely on. It had an incredibly annoying habit of flickering information in distracting pop-up tabs at the bottom of the screen every time I moved my mouse. In short, I hated Firefox 4. Everyone I spoke to felt the same way.
So I tried Google's Chrome. It was just as bad. It looked almost exactly the same, and had everything I didn't like about Firefox 4. Finally, I hunted down an installer for Firefox 3.6 and reverted back to it. It was simply the superior browser. Once again, I could be happy. Even though I had lost my saved passwords, bookmarks, and other add ons; and had to work hard to get things back to how I'd had them it was worth it.
I must not have been the only one to feel this way, because Firefox 4 seems to have been amazingly short lived. Now you have out Firefox 5, and yet nothing has changed. From what I can tell, it is still the same poorly designed browser that I hated in version 4, just given a new number. Honestly, even calling it a new version seems dishonest.
I have to ask why. Why are you trying so hard to imitate browsers that I already passed up in favour of using Firefox? Why go up a whole version number for something that hasn't really changed at all? Most of all, why do you keep trying to get people to change to something so radically different from the browser that they have, and actually like?

NOTE: Support for Firefox 3.6.x will end in a few months.
"...because Firefox 4 seems to have been amazingly short lived..."
"Why go up a whole version number for something that hasn't really changed at all?"
Current planning under Mozilla's quick version release plan, a new Firefox version will be released about every 3 months unless Mozilla changes its schedule. We are all uncompensated volunteers here helping other users; we are not Mozilla employees.

That can easily be turned off (Status-4-Evar extension below)

Firefox 4 (and 5) can be made to look very much like Firefox 3.6; Menu Bar instead of Firefox button (check "Menu Bar"), Tabs below the toolbars instead of Tabs on Top (un-check "Tabs on Top"), bring color back to the toolbar buttons, add back some of the functionality of the Status Bar that was removed and replaced by the Add-on Bar (Status-4-Evar extension below), etc.

Thank you, Helper7677. That was completely unhelpful. Please never reply to one of my questions ever again.
- I do not want workarounds and add-ons to restore basic functionality.
- I do not want a buggy piece of software with numerous compatibility issues.
- I do not want software that cannot do as promised with even basic features.
- I do not want a relabelling of a product I already rejected.
- I do not want Firefox 4/5.
If you are using Firefox 3.6.x, support for that will be ending soon, If you are using Firefox 4, support for it ended with the introduction of Firefox 5. If you are using IE, good luck; hope you don't get hacked or infected online. Chrome, well I tried it and it is not as configurable and many Firefox add-ons that I depend on are not available and no substitutes are available either.
I started using Mozilla products many years ago. Went from Netscape to Firefox 2. Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 have worked beautifully for me. No problems. Firefox is highly configurable but may not be suited for many users who do not wish to learn about how to configure it to their liking.
Sorry that I wasted my time. With that attitude, good luck. Just wait until you see what Chrome and IE are working on for future releases of their browsers. But then, maybe you just can not the happy with any browser.
If you think 4.0 is bad wait to you go to 5.0. The changes from 3.6 are trashy and sloppy. Foxfire needs to stop playing with the home page on updates. I do not like them.
sloppy? can't even get the name of what your complaining about correct Firefox
