since updating firefox to the latest version the other day, my menu bar at the top is now smaller, grey, and blurry . How can I make it clearer and larger like in the previous version

The text does seem smaller than in Firefox 3.6. You could try this add-on and see whether it lets you get the UI the way you want: Theme Font & Size Changer :: Add-ons for Firefox.
