Can't open GMail in Firefox but can in I.E. - any suggestions?
HP Laptop running XP SP3 with FF4 default browser. ZoneAlarm firewall, but problem still occurs when this turned off. Gmail will not accept my username and/or password in FF but immediate access when switching to IE8.
Chosen solution
Problems logging in to GMail, try
- double-click on user id, to bring up choices, password should then fill in automatically.
- if no place to fill in password, use the link to say another user-id then try again
- Try logging in from a Google search, if successful click on GMail at top, if link is not available you probably have been into GMail yet with current profile.
- Try logging in as a different user, and fill in the same user-id as you wanted in the first place.
If those fail, try removing specific cookies for Google or Google mail
- Tools > Options > Privacy
- Show Cookies
- filter on: mail.google
- delete individual cookies for gmail, use the down-arrow and "Del" keys
If that fails try removing all Google cookies
- as above, but filter on: google
- use Ctrl+A to select all
- review list, modify selection with Ctrl key, then use "Del" key
I find I have a lot less trouble bringing up GMail with a keyword shortcut
- gmail: Gmail - Inbox (white) BASIC HTML
javascript:void(window.open(location.href="https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=html&zy=s")) - https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox
- https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0&shva=1#inbox

Modified
Many thanks - it was one of the google cookies that blocked access to gmail.
