Is Firefox 4 OS specific. It won't load to my aps foulder, I am running tiger

When I open firefox on the desk top there is a white circle with a line through it. If I drag it to the apps folder it says there is a newer item in there but when I check the version it shows I have version 3.6.17. Any help wold be appreciated.
